Invacare began to chart its course in 1885 when the Worthington Company began producing a line of products for people with reduced mobility. The company was acquired and later spun off by Johnson & Johnson in 1979 to become an independent company. Over the years, by listening to its customers, Invacare has grown and expanded to become the #1 medical device provider in terms of customer support and innovation.

Invacare has merged with key partners in each product area to give customers worldwide access to the best products. In doing so, the company was also able to reach a greater number of users around the world, understand their practices and communicate the best of them.

Currently, Invacare is a modern, global and market-leading company, with a rich and fascinating history. It is a world leader in the production and distribution of home support and long-term care medical products that promote recovery and an active lifestyle. 

Invacare began its presence in Portugal in February 1996 with the acquisition of the company Fabriorto, a local manufacturer of manual steel wheelchairs, manual hospital beds and walking aids, with a strong presence in the Portuguese market.

In 1999, after 3 years of continuous growth and reorganization, Invacare Operations Portugal began producing metal side guards and steel manual wheelchairs for European inter-companies.

In 2008, Invacare Portugal was installed in a new building, more modern, more ecological and meeting all environmental standards, with solar panels, exhaust systems with air quality measurement, thermal roof, noise insulation, water use waste and material recycling point. The acquisition of welding robots allowed production to be maximized, especially hospital beds.

Currently, the Operations Unit produces hospital beds and transfer elevators that are exported around the world.

Invacare Portugal has been growing constantly and strengthening its position as a market leader in the supply of quality medical devices in compliance with all European standards.
